Arrivals & Dismissals

Arrival Procedures

The first bell rings at 8:50 AM and our second bell rings at 8:55 AM.  This second bell is our “start of school” bell and the one around which you will want to arrange your schedule. Please plan to drop your child off at school between 8:40 AM and 8:55 AM using our curbside rolling drop-off. This will ensure that your child is on time to start his/her day.  Any student who enters the building after 8:55 AM should report to the nurse’s office so that attendance can be adjusted from absent to tardy.  Please do not drop your child off before 8:40 AM, as there is no supervision in place until that time.  To ensure the safety of all of our children, families are not permitted to escort children to their classrooms.

Dismissal Procedures

Our school dismissal takes place daily from 3:20 - 3:25 PM.  Families are discouraged from picking students up before this time, as it is highly disruptive to instructional time.  In an effort to continue to help with parking lot congestion at dismissal, we will operate on a staggered dismissal.  At the end of the school day, all Kindergarten and First Grade students will be dismissed at 3:20 PM.  If your kindergarten or first grade student has older siblings, you may request in writing to your child’s teacher to also have your older students dismissed at 3:20 PM with a younger sibling. Without this written request, your grade 3-5 student(s) will be dismissed at 3:25 PM.  Additionally, if you wish for your grade 3-5 student to be dismissed as an unsupervised walker, please complete the dismissal form in the office.  Without this note, your child will not be permitted to walk home.

The dismissal location for all K-2 students (and requested older siblings) at 3:20 PM will be at the same 1st and 2nd wing doors used during arrival.  Students in Grades 2-5 will be dismissed at 3:25 PM utilizing the 2nd and 3rd wing doors.  All bus riders and SKIP students will also prepare for dismissal at 3:20 PM.  We are hopeful that with these procedures in place, parking lot congestion will be reduced and the overall safety of our students and their families will be best achieved.

Safety During Arrival and Dismissal

As most of you are already aware, arrival and dismissal times are the busiest times at school.  We ask that you support our efforts by adhering to these safety guidelines as your child’s safety is of the utmost importance to us.  Please do not let your child enter or exit your car where there is moving traffic. During arrival, students must be dropped off along the curbside driveway at the front of the school, exiting the car on the passenger side only.   Also, when navigating the parking lot at any time, please be sure to keep children close, and adhere to all traffic guidelines.  The side parking lot is for staff only.  Parents/families are permitted to park only in designated parking spaces in our main parking lot at the front of the school.

As a reminder, cars are permitted to make a RIGHT TURN ONLY when exiting the school parking lot.  This will help to ensure that traffic is able to exit the parking lot easily and that the backup on Knoll Road is at a minimum. Additionally, parents are encouraged to park along the northbound side (school side) of Knoll Road.  This will allow pedestrians to move along school sidewalks safely without having to cross Knoll Road.
