Welcome to Kindergarten!
Each morning children will have a special routine they will follow beginning with unpacking their backpacks. Students will meet for morning meeting. This is an important time for students to get to learn about their classmates, rules, expectations, and exciting news for the day.
Throughout our Language Arts curriculum, we will be working hard on various concepts of reading and writing. We will be incorporating Project Read into this part of our day. Project Read, is a systematic and multi-sensory method of teaching reading and writing skills. Students will be working in journals weekly, as well as, Reading and Writing workshops. Handwriting, dictation, high frequency words, and guided reading are also exciting components of our curriculum.
Our Go Math! curriculum is extremely fun and interactive. Students will be learning concepts of Algebra, Geometry, and Measurement. We implement plenty of guided exploration and inquiry to help students draw conclusions on their own. Students will have a stronger concept of number sense. Our math program is very hands-on and the students really love it!
Our Science Fusion curriculum explores the following units: Doing Science, Animals, Plants, Habitats, Day and Night, Earth’s Resources, Weather and the Seasons, Matter, Energy, and Motion. In these units, we will do hands on and virtual explorations, and students will be keeping a science notebook. Ask them to share Science topics with you.
We are also very excited about our Social Studies curriculum: My World. The following units will be taught: Families and Friends, A Big Wide World, Long Ago and Today, and Our Country. Students will have fun learning about community and the world around us.
Kindergarten is interactive, fun, and challenging. We are so excited to begin what we know will be a great year!
