Basic Skills Math
The Basic Skills Math Program at Knollwood School strives to help students strengthen mathematical skills, so they are better able to meet grade level math expectations. We will work on building a strong mathematical foundation by focusing on math vocabulary, number sense, basic facts, computation and problem solving. I work with the children in a small pull-out group and/or through inclusion in their regular classroom.
Parent involvement in developing math skills is important, but I know it can be frustrating when today’s mathematics content and instruction looks very different from the math “we” did in school. The reason for this is that research and experience shows that high-quality math instruction involves students making sense of the math they are doing and communicating about their thinking. This can be a challenge when as parents, we may not understand the “why” behind the math. I promise to do my best to provide resources to support you on the journey to build your child’s mathematical mind. I have listed some helpful websites below to get you started.
