Practice Makes Perfect
The Knollwood School Instrumental Music Program is underway!! Students should bring their instrument and music folder to their lessons as follows:
Fourth Grade band members bring instruments and music folders on Monday. (Fourth grader band lessons rotate between Monday and Tuesday mornings.)
Fifth Grade band members bring instruments and music folders on Tuesday. (Fifth grader band lessons rotate between Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday.)
Parents are reminded that students should bring their instruments home after their lesson or band period every week so they can practice.
Practice is the key to success!! Mr. Pettinelli would like students and parents to set up a practice schedule at home. An average practice routine would be 4-5 times per week for about 10 - 15 minutes per session. For beginners, it is best to keep practice sessions short in length to start. As students play longer, they will develop better muscle and breath control for themselves. The key to success with playing an instrument is to establish a good foundation of basics to build upon.
Parents are encouraged to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for their new band members as they begin learning the “in’s and out’s” of their instruments. As students become familiar with their instrument, they will begin to develop self-discipline, self-esteem, and a sense of accomplishment as they experience the joys that music has to offer!
