We are excited to announce that Knollwood will be celebrating Read Across America Week and SEL Day from March 2nd through March 6th! It will be a fun-filled week focused on reading, community, and social-emotional learning.
Throughout the week, students will participate in a variety of special activities, including:
🎉 Spirit Days
📖 Book Swap
🎭 Masked Reader Event
🔌 Disconnect to Reconnect
👯 Buddy Read
Please be sure to review the interactive Read Across America Spirit Days and Schedule for important details about daily themes and activities.
🎭 Masked Reader Event
Our staff members have disguised themselves and recorded special read-alouds for students to enjoy throughout the week. Classes will watch the Masked Reader videos leading up to our school-wide assembly on Thursday, where the mystery readers will reveal their identities!
📖 Book Swap
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we have received so many book donations that students do not need to bring in a book this year.
Every student will go home with a book!
Each class has an assigned Book Swap day. Books will be delivered directly to classrooms, and teachers will complete the swap at a time that works best during the school day.
👯 Buddy Read – Wednesday
Our annual Buddy Read will take place on Wednesday (a half day). Teachers will coordinate a time and location that works best for their buddy classes.
Students in Grades 3–5 have already selected and practiced reading their books during Media class. Books will be delivered at the start of the school day.
🔌 Friday – SEL Day
On Friday, we will celebrate SEL Day with our “Disconnect to Reconnect” initiative, led by our Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Brewer.
